When we are children, hope feels natural.

It is not something we learn or practice. It simply lives inside us.Our dreams feel possible. Our kindness feels obvious. Our belief that we can make a difference in the world feels unquestioned.

Then life happens.

We grow older. We experience disappointment. We witness pain.Sometimes we hurt others. Sometimes others hurt us.We see injustice. We see suffering. We see the complexity of the world.

And at some point we begin to ask ourselves difficult questions.

Who am I really? What do I believe now that I have seen more?Is hope still reasonable? Is kindness still strong enough to matter?

For some people, these experiences make the world feel darker. Possibility begins to shrink. Cynicism replaces wonder. The light that once guided them becomes harder to see.

But there is another possibility.

Sometimes the things we experience do not extinguish the light we began with.Sometimes they deepen it.

When I look into the eyes of my younger self, I still see me. I still feel me.

The outside has changed. The years have added knowledge, perspective, and experience. But inside, the eyes are the same. The heart is the same. The belief is the same.

In fact, it may be stronger.

Because when you understand the pain of the world, hope is no longer naive. It becomes a choice. When you see how easily people can lose their way, kindness becomes courage. When you witness how difficult life can be for others, helping becomes purpose.

As a child I believed we could make the world better.

Today I believe it even more.

Our purpose is simple, even if living it is not.Leave the world better than we found it.Touch people who may have given up.Create opportunity where it seems like there is none.Remind people that possibility still exists.

And maybe most importantly, help revive that sense of freedom, hope, and kindness in people who believe they have lost it.

I remember the moment I first became conscious of this calling. I even dreamed about it. That sense of purpose has never left me. It is easy to tap into because it has always lived inside me. It continues to guide me.

The light we begin with does not disappear.Sometimes it simply waits for us to remember it.

I hope your little light guides you too.
